A night in the town

Hey!

So, I got placed in Advanced Spanish (like, level 4 of 4). I would be happy about this if it was all just conversational Spanish, but there is no way I will be able to read and write advanced level things. I talked to the "professora" and she's going to try to work something out where I'll be pushed to improve my speaking and finally actually learn grammar and reading/writing. I'm not sure she's going to be able to do anything, but we'll see.

So I was getting a little homesick and feeling blue bc of the whole Spanish class thing and I was feeling left out of the group I was with here. One girl invited me to go out with the big group that was going. This usually isn't my scene but I decided I'd go if I had a closer friend (KC) with me. After getting ready (make-up, clothes, etc) to go out, I went out to catch the metro at 10:30pm to meet up at the designated party area (called Bella Vista). I was kinda nervous and scared walking alone, but I ran into a girl from our group on the train and we walked to Bellas Artes (the meeting spot) together, running into more people on the way. We were waiting for even more people, so we were slowly walking around and this guy stops us by asking "Hey, are you Americans?" It was kinda sketchy but we responded. He ended up being from Texas and knowing the same people as one of the guys in our group from Texas. I guess we decided to trust him bc 10 minutes later he was leading us to Bella Vista to go party it up with us. He was hitting on all of the girls, which was expected but still awkward. He finally speeds up to walk with me and is like "Hey, I didn't catch your name." So I responded "Oh, it's Nina. What's yours?" "Andrew" "Oh, really! That's my boyfriend's name!" Almost immediately he slows down to walk with the people behind me. I'm not sure he believed me, but it got him to stop talking to me, which was good.
We end up in Bella Vista (after what feels like a mile of walking) and our group, which was kind of big to start with, splits up. I end up in the group of people without Andrew. (yay!) We needed to wait for KC so we all just sat down in the outdoor bar-restaurant and order drinks. I get a Corona (because I'm feeling sad that we didn't get to go to Mexico), others order cheap (read: bad, no one liked it) Chilean wine and Pisco Sours (Pisco is like Chilean Tequila, which I had at dinner once and liked). KC ends up not being able to catch the bus to the metro station and tells me she won't be able to meet up with us. I was sad she couldn't come but I was also feeling comfortable with the group I was with, so I wasn't too worried.
Afterwards, we meet up with the rest of our group in a bar called "Dublin." Like the gringos we are, we kind of took over the restaurant, pushing a ton of tables together and just being in the way. We all want to go to a discoteca, so after everyone who ordered drinks tried to drunkenly gather and count money to pay the bill, we were off in search of a discoteca.
We walked for a while and found "Jammin'," this really sketchy Rastafarian/Reggaeton discoteca. We enter, and there are a zillion creepy guys that smell like marijuana and like 40% of them have dreadlocks. We dance for, like, an hour (I think, it's 3am at this point), and I tag-a-long with a group of people that are getting ready to leave. I take a cab home (which are relatively cheap, our ride was around $4) with two other people that live near by, and go to sleep. By the time I finally fell asleep it was about 4am. While this isn't normally my scene, I had fun. I don't know how some people have been doing it EVERY NIGHT. It definitely helped me bond with our group.

Today was the Chile-Espana game. I went downtown and had a GREAT time. I'll fill you guys in (with PICS!) in a bit (like, hopefully today, as soon as I learn how to add pics to my posts...).
