The Fourth

We were invited to the US Embassy to celebrate the Fourth of July. I usually love American Embassies. In Niger and Ethiopia, they were always fun to go to, so I was looking forward to visiting another one.

This "celebration" was very short. They had Starbucks, McDonalds McNuggets, and Papa Johns pizza. We could only have a slice of pizza (or 4 McNuggets) for lunch, there was a flag raising ceremony, and the ambassador spoke, and that was all. Most of the embassy was closed off so we could not even look around. The most interesting part was being able to ask a worker there how much alcohol I was allowed to bring back to the US (and he didn't really answer my question...) (oh, I'm not an alcoholic mom and dad, I want to bring back Chilean wine and pisco for GIFTS!)

Afterwards, because my friend and I were disappointed, we stopped by a Dominoes to get pizza-hotdogs. Sigh, I miss bbqs and fireworks...

Happy 4th of July everyone!

  1. Sounds very American to me. If pizza-hotdogs are pizza with hot dogs on it, I am intrigued.
